Congratulations to Nadia Maudhoo of Omaha. She is this year's winner of the 2011 Larson Young Artist Award, and congratulations to runner-up Emily Dowd of Lincoln, and honorable mention Jehong Ahn from Omaha.

Lincoln, Neb. — Meadowlark Music Festival hosted the 2011 Max and Lillie Larsen Young Artist Award on Saturday, March 12 at the Westbrook Music Hall on UNL’s City Campus. This year’s competitors included Jehong Ahn, viola, Westside High School; Yasmeen Bora, violin, Millard North High School; Helen Dowd, violin, home school; Lucy Elge, violin, Aurora Public High School; Justin Lepard, cello, Lincoln High School; Nadia Maudhoo, violin, Millard West High School; and Stephanie McAtee, violin, Lincoln East High School.

The first place winner is violinist Nadia Maudhoo. Second place went to violinist Helen Dowd, with an Honorable Mention going to violinist Jehong Ahn. Meadowlark Music Festival wishes to congratulate all the contestants and thank them for their participation.
Judges included Joel Jank, cellist and Orchestra Director at Hastings High School, Lisa Myers, violinist at Lincoln’s symphony orchestra and owner at Legacy Strings, and Lisa Watkins, independent violin instructor in Lincoln and violinist in Classic Quartet.

Students from schools across Nebraska as well as home-schooled students participated in the 2011 competition.
About the Larson Award ~
With the generous annual support of Max and Lillie Larsen, the Larsen Young Artist Awards competition honors the outstanding talent of young Nebraska string players.
Through this competition, two outstanding string players are selected as recipients of the Larsen Young Artists Award. The winner receives $1,000 plus the privilege of performing with a professional string quartet; the runner-up is given a performing opportunity plus a $500 cash award.
Any high school student from Nebraska is eligible to participate.
Meadowlark Music Festival is nationally known for it’s offering of world-class chamber music and for its commitment to education and outreach.
